This small vermilion-lacquered sake cup has a humorous depiction of a gourd and a catfish inside.
The term ‘Gourd and Catfish' is based on a Zen koan (a paradoxical question for Zen meditation) : “How do you catch a slimy catfish with a slippery gourd?”'
While enjoying a drink with this sake cup, it might be fun to play around in a fantasy world, trying to figure out how to catch a catfish with a gourd.
