菊は奈良時代(8世紀)に薬用として中国から伝わりました。
菊を浸した水を飲むと長寿が保てるとの故事から、重陽の節句には菊酒を飲んで延命長寿を願う風習もあります。
この杯では、使う人の健康と長寿を願って、金蒔絵で大胆に菊の花を描きました。

Chrysanthemums were introduced to Japan from China during the Nara period (8th century) for medicinal purposes.
Based on an old belief that drinking water infused with chrysanthemums could promote longevity, there is a tradition of drinking chrysanthemum sake during the Chōyō Festival to pray for a long and healthy life.
On this cup, chrysanthemums are boldly depicted in gold maki-e, symbolizing wishes for the user's health and longevity.
